Amy Sedaris is an American actress, comedian, and writer best known for creating and starring as Jerri Blank in the cult Comedy Central series Strangers with Candy. She began her career in Chicago's Second City improv scene before moving into television and film, and she frequently collaborates with her brother, humorist David Sedaris, as well as with Stephen Colbert and Paul Dinello, with whom she co-wrote the novel Wigfield and co-created Strangers with Candy.
Beyond performing, Sedaris built a distinct reputation as a comic authority on homemaking and hospitality, an image she parodied and celebrated in her 2006 bestseller I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence, which stayed on the New York Times best-seller list for over 12 weeks. The book, filled with tongue-in-cheek entertaining advice, recipes, and craft tips, later inspired her TruTV series At Home with Amy Sedaris, for which she received further critical acclaim as the creator and star, earning her two nominations for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Variety Sketch Series.
Sedaris's crossover appeal as both a mainstream entertainer and an offbeat lifestyle personality makes her a recognizable and enduringly popular figure. Her voice work in animated hits like BoJack Horseman and her recurring role in The Mandalorian have only broadened her fan base, and her handwritten, personality-driven books like I Like You remain sought after as collectible artifacts of her distinctive comic persona.
