Description

A pair of round, gently domed silver earrings, each hand-stamped with a ring of small star or sunburst punches encircling a wavy, scalloped inner line — a pattern that echoes the traditional Navajo wedding basket design, long a popular motif in Southwestern silverwork. 3/4" diameter. The slightly irregular, hammered disc form and the worn circular boss on the reverse, where the clip finding is soldered, raise the possibility that these were fashioned from silver coins, a well-documented practice among early Navajo and other Southwestern silversmiths before commercial silver sheet became widely available; this cannot be confirmed from photos alone; no coin markings (date, denomination, or design remnants) are visible, so they are offered as silver, possibly coin silver, rather than with a confirmed coin origin. Unmarked overall, with clip backs for non-pierced ears. A nice, wearable example of Southwestern stamped silver work for collectors of Native American or tribal-style jewelry.

Condition Report:

Good vintage condition, wear commensurate with age. The silver shows soft tarnish and light overall surface wear consistent with age and handling. The stamped design is crisp and fully legible on both earrings. The clip mechanisms are intact and function securely, though some solder residue/discoloration is visible around the clip attachment on the reverse.
