A festive miniature souvenir sombrero, 9" wide, made of orange velvet trimmed all around the brim in gold metallic scalloped braid. The crown and brim are hand-embroidered with radiating sunburst stitching and star-shaped appliqué motifs, further embellished with metallic sequins sewn on with visible thread "rays," and a decorative twisted cord chin strap hangs from one side. Miniature sombreros like this one were popular mid-20th century souvenir and decorative items associated with Mexican folk craft and mariachi culture, often brought back from travel or given as festive party decor; the small scale and rich color made them favorites for wall display or curio collections. A fun, colorful piece for collectors of Mexican folk art, textile souvenirs, or novelty hat collections.

Condition Report:

Good vintage condition, wear commensurate with age. The velvet shows light overall wear with some flattening/matting to the nap, particularly on the brim. A few loose threads are visible near the brim edge (see photos). The sequin and metallic trim embellishments remain intact with no notable losses. The chin cord is present and intact.
