A hand-painted decorative plate from Safi, Morocco, a coastal city long recognized as a center of Moroccan ceramic production. The plate is decorated on a bright yellow ground with a scalloped, multi-lobed floral medallion in black outline, filled with burgundy dotted petals radiating from a central point, surrounded by smaller floral motifs and a scalloped arcaded border pattern in black, orange, and burgundy. The reverse is signed in black script, reading "Safi" along with what appears to be an additional maker's or workshop signature. Moroccan pottery from Safi is traditionally hand-thrown and hand-painted, with this bold yellow-and-black palette being a distinctive regional style.
