Description

This 10" ceramic figurine depicts a woman in a full, flared bell-shaped skirt, hollow-cast with an open base typical of ceramic figure construction. She's rendered in a charming folk-art style, with a simply painted round face, dot eyes, and rosy pink cheeks beneath a bobbed, carved-texture hairstyle, wearing a plain cream bodice with a blue waist ribbon in front and a larger tied sash bow at the back. Her skirt is glazed in a warm, hand-painted zigzag pattern in ochre, brown, and terracotta tones against a cream ground, giving real movement to the piece. The underside is stamped "Made in Spain" alongside the maker's monogram for Jordi Aguadé, part of the well-known Aguadé family of ceramicists based in La Bisbal d'Empordà, Catalonia, whose stylized, simplified-face folk figures are widely recognized and collected within Spanish studio ceramics. Condition Report:

Good vintage condition, wear commensurate with age. The glaze is intact throughout with no chips or cracks noted to the figure or skirt, the bottom of her skirt ties are broken, though it is not particularly notcieable. A small dark mark/glaze fleck is visible on the front of the skirt, likely a firing mark rather than damage. Light overall surface wear consistent with handling and display.
